Google Real-Time Search and the effect it will have on your Social Interaction.

Google has launched their real-time search results and some users are starting to see this in their browser this week. People will start to see live streaming tweets fed directly from Twitter based on the keywords you searched on. Can I say … WOW and convey the enthusiasm via this blog entry? I see so much potential, that it makes my brain smoke.

This will change the face of relevance and searching on targeted keywords. Real-time results opens up tremendous potential to reach your niche audience by further embracing the social platforms, but strategy will prevail.

There are millions of people that spend weeks/months and years trying to get heir message to the first page of Google. It is an expensive and painful process that bears much fruit. But, the game is changing … and is changing fast. Those who embrace will prevail.

My questions to you are …

1) How will this effect they way you Tweet?

2) How will this effect you engage your Friends/Fans on Facebook?

Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

Q: Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking?

A: In a word, no. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that’s an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in our search ranking at present.

Q: Why doesn’t Google use the keywords meta tag?

A: About a decade ago, search engines judged pages only on the content of web pages, not any so-called “off-page” factors such as the links pointing to a web page. In those days, keyword meta tags quickly became an area where someone could stuff often-irrelevant keywords without typical visitors ever seeing those keywords. Because the keywords meta tag was so often abused, many years ago Google began disregarding the keywords meta tag.

Q: Does this mean that Google ignores all meta tags?

A: No, Google does support several other meta tags. This meta tags page documents more info on several meta tags that we do use. For example, we do sometimes use the “description” meta tag as the text for our search results snippets, as this screenshot shows:

Even though we sometimes use the description meta tag for the snippets we show, we still don’t use the description meta tag in our ranking.

Q: Does this mean that Google will always ignore the keywords meta tag?

A: It’s possible that Google could use this information in the future, but it’s unlikely. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for years and currently we see no need to change that policy.

My note to you website owners, business owners and online marketers alike … Do not stop using meta keywords as they will come into play with various other search engines. Think broad, not narrow when you are attempting to attract online traffic via search engines.

Google Adwords Display URL Policy Change

Here we go … this will help separate the herd once again. People who neglect to follow will be left in the dust.

Google is implementing display URL changes based on the below blog post (from Google Blog) …

For example, an ad group containing the following group of display URLs would comply with this policy because all URLs contain the same top-level domain, “example.com”:

• www.example.com
• www.widgets.example.com
• www.example.com/widgets/redwidgets/
• www.example.com/index.html

On the other hand, and ad group containing the following group of display URLs would not comply with our policy because their top-level domains don’t match:

• www.example.com
• www.example.widgets.com

Search Engine Optimization Tips – Back to the Basics

Search engine optimization is where we find the low hanging fruit, the so called “Free Leads, Free Sales, Free Conversions”.Â While nothing is FREE, those who put the wrench time into organic SEO “and do it well” will learn how valuable it really is. Keyword mining and research – Make sure you are targeting the right keywords. Do not guess at what keywords/phrases your potential customers are searching with.

Keyword & strategic placement – Make sure you put your keywords in the title, description and everywhere else the search engines like to see them. Do not spam and watch out for keyword density.

Fresh and original content - Search engines like fresh content, that’s why blogs are so important. Develop a posting schedule and stick to it as much as you can. The spiders will learn your habits of posting and come back more often.

Web directories – Submit your site to web directories. Think relevance and lots of it. Directories can provide a great deal of targeted leads and most of them are completely FREE.

Put your content online – Write original content for your site or blog. Duplicate your content into articles and white papers for potential customers to download. Remember … relevance matters.

Be social – Comment on blogs, participate in online conversations and join social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Linked-In. These social sites will drive highly targeted traffic to your site and will allow you to network with like minded people.

Be patient – Everyone is impatient thee days. Be patient because search engines are not going to make you priority #1 until you prove to them that your site is worthy of page 1 results. Even so, it takes weeks and sometimes months to see progress.Â The battle is tough, but it is worth the wait. You may get bruised along the way but if you stick to the basics and maintain a high level of relevance you will be victorious.
